PAINTINGS MONOPRINTS PHOTOGRAPHS

“My paintings are influenced by
my strong connection to Chicago and its endless inspirations, the human face and figure, Japanese block prints, the ever- changing rhythms and forms of nature, Surrealist and automatist ideas, and cartoons of the 1960s and 1970s.

Working primarily on small wood panels, and occasionally on canvases of varying sizes, I use oil paint and pencil to create semi-abstract imagery that invites viewers into a process of discovery and interpretation.
Ambiguous forms emerge and shift within each composition, prompting questions: is that shape a figure, an animal, or something entirely unfamiliar? Is that a part of a body, and which part?
Through vivid color, layered mark-making, and fluid compositions, I aim to create paintings that feel both deeply personal and open-ended. My hope is that viewers are left with the sense that they have encountered something individual, memorable, and alive with ideas.”
“Everson draws on the art of Dubuffet, Alfonso Ossorio and the
Outsider Art movement to create abstractions that forcefully suggest
the human figure, not so much described objectively
as created by the artist’s own energetic estheticism.”
